The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the Britain's independent music venues.
He was given the cheque on October 16 as his third album his work was named the best record of the previous year.
Fender has decided to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages played in his beginning days.
"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."
Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.
In the last year, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.
Sam Fender also participated, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.
The donation helped locations that were facing possible closure due to issues arising from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.
Some locations obtained financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.
"The concept that money from shows in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.
The musician is far from the only musician to donate his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.
Back when they won the award in 1996 for their release their work, lead singer the singer stated that the act would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.
During 2002, rapper and singer the artist split her award among multiple charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.
"I also donated a grand to my local community centre, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked new equipment," the artist explained to outlets.
Previously, they donated their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.
Also winners that year they gave their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the illness.
"Winning was ample," stated vocalist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory affected the lives of others."
Last week, the MVT shared it had protected several local spots in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.
One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
